👷Last night was the first night of our new Woodwork after school educational session for school years 5 and 6.
👩🏼🏫The aim of this session is to introduce a subject and equipment that children would not normally have access to until secondary school🛠
👩🏼🎓Learning how to handle the tools and machinery used in key stage 3 and 4 will build knowledge, confidence and maturity of the individuals in the group to support the transition from primary school to secondary school life 🚍
🥼Woodwork is a medium for the group to express their creativity and imagination. All exploration becomes more meaningful when it has been initiated and is led by the children in the group.
By building their creative and critical thinking skills they are laying the foundations to become the creative innovators of the future⚗️
🥽The session was delivered by Woodshed Workshop CIC and started with a health and safety induction of the woodwork shop, general machine safety, what the machines are used for and the basics of the tools they would be using🦺
🪚The children practiced using a saw, hammer, nails and clamp🗜
🐾They also made friends with Penny, the Woodshed Workshop resident canine🦴
📚The members of the group were given a homework task to come up with a woodwork design they can make during the sessions ✍️
⌨️Next week the children will learn how to use the CNC Router (computer numerical control router which is a computer-controlled cutting machine used for cutting various materials, such as wood, composites, aluminium, steel, plastics, glass, and foams.)🪵
🥧Thank you to Greggs bakery for supplying the snacks for the session🍩
